The importance of doctor-led covid swab testing for travel by Dr Suhail Hussain

As the world starts to open up again, it is clear that certain things have changed quite dramatically; foreign travel is one of them.

Airlines and travel companies have drastically tighter restrictions and regulations they need to meet.

This is understandable and necessary. Where there are 200-300 people travelling together, collective safety is important.

The last thing you want is to arrive at your holiday destination only to discover you have contracted covid from the family sitting in the aisle next to you.

Equally you do not want to spread it to other passengers either. Therefore, getting a coronavirus PCR Swab Test before travelling is incredibly important.

If you have evidence of non-infectivity or current immunity, this can make your travel far more free sailing. This will also mean that you have proof you can provide to the authorities on arrival. The last thing you want is to arrive at your holiday destination, looking forward to some much-needed rest and relaxation, only to be told you need to self-isolate for 14 days, at your own expense!

Here at CPMC, we have highly trained doctors, well versed in taking throat swabs for all the family – parents and children alike. Moreover, we can explain the results to you and provide a certificate of non-infectivity.

It is paramount that swabs are taken correctly to ensure an accurate result is obtained. It is nigh on impossible to do a reliable self-throat swab. First of all, it needs to be taken from five different areas of the throat, secondly, you are highly likely to initiate your gag reflex and thirdly, you need to do it in the correct sequence. Throat and then nostril.

Imagine, trying to do this on your children on top of yourself!

Finally, foreign governments and airlines are unlikely to accept a self-taken swab. They need a certified clinic with trained doctors to have carried this out.

Don’t jeopardise your holiday by taking short cuts. Let us take care of your medical travel needs, so you can enjoy your well-deserved break!

Dr Suhail Hussain is one of our experienced GPs and is available every Monday for PCR Swabs tests or any other medical issues you may have.
