Raising awareness about mental health over breakfast at the Ivy Chelsea Garden

Ladies joined for breakfast at the Ivy Chelsea garden to raise awareness about mental health!  Stress and anxiety are issues that we can all struggle with at some point in our lives.

The pressures we face in life can sometimes be overwhelming, leaving us feeling confused, scared and alone. These emotions can be brought on at any moment, perhaps by a looming deadline at work, or another endless stream of seemingly flawless and successful people on social media. Even nagging doubts about what we want out of life and whether we are on the right path. Mental Health statistics state that in England women are almost twice as likely to be diagnosed with anxiety disorders as men. For this reason, Chelsea Pharmacy Medical Clinic chose to host a Ladies Breakfast at The Ivy Chelsea Garden to tackle the often taboo subject of mental health, concentrating primarily on stress and anxiety.


The multidisciplinary team of female practitioners gave positive and helpful advice based on their own experience and medical knowledge. The diversity of practitioners present at the event epitomized the well rounded medical care that Chelsea Pharmacy Medical Clinic provides 7 days a week. The clinic’s GPs, acupuncturists, podiatrist, osteopath, nutritionist, pharmacist and cancer coach all spoke from their perspective as professionals but also as women. The practitioners’ speeches were both identifiable and uplifting with self help tips aimed to reduce stress in both body and mind. The message given was that causes, symptoms and therefore treatment of stress and anxiety vary from person to person. They are very personal issues and each individual heals and deals with their experience in their own way but there is no need to suffer alone.


The main lesson learned at this event, I believe, is to acknowledge our feelings of stress and anxiety and be open to talking about them, whether it be with a friend, family member or professional.  On that note let us remember the wise words of author, poet and civil rights activist Maya Angelou
