Along with autumn comes a new skincare routine, time to repair and rejuvenate from the summer sun damage and prep for the harsh winter winds ahead. Here is a quick guide, courtesy of Chelsea Medical Clinic, of what your Autumn skincare should look like;
*all recommended products and treatments are available in our Pharmacy/GP Clinic
1. Let’s start with the basics; cleansers.
Some cleansers feel amazing, like a fresh wind ridding our face of any traces of dirt or congestion. Often these cleansers are the harsh ones we should stay away from; stripping our skin of any natural oils and completely throwing everything off balance. No thank you. This season stick to moisture based products which are kinder, calmer and actually skin friendly! We recommend the Sesderma Sensyses Liposomal Cleanser – £10.90, Sesderma Hidraderm Cleansing Milk 200ml £16.40, La Roche-Posay Toleriane Dermo-Cleanser £12.50
2. Medical peels & acupuncture
The harsh UV rays from the joyful summer sun have completely broken down the collagen (Yes, the stuff that keeps our skin strength & elasticity and replaces dead skin cells disaster). Regular light peels stimulate the circulation in your skin and boosts collagen as well as de-congests the surface of your skin. After several treatments the skin becomes more supple and firm, taking on a more youthful glow. (Ummm, yes please?!) Peels have a range of benefits for a various number of skin concerns including: acne, acne scarring, rough patches, dry skin, enlarged pores, dark circles, irregular pigmentation and a host of other skin concerns.
If chemical peels sound a little daunting – opt for a cosmetic acupuncture, which brings all the joy of glowing, youthful skin through a more natural procedure. Cosmetic acupuncture can also help lift baggy eyes, reduce fine lines and improve skin tone.

3. Moisture, moisture, moisture.
The dry autumn/winter air can cause the moisture in your skin to evaporate, leaving it flaky, dry and uncomfortable. Switch your light moisturisers to something much more cream like as they provide a stronger oily barrier, reducing water loss by locking in moisture whilst providing hydration all at the same time. Try to avoid washing face with hot water as this too can be dehydrating – stick to lukewarm water. Moisturiser creams we recommend; Sesderma – Hidraderm hyal facial cream 50ml £25.45, Sesderma – C-VIT moisturising facial cream 50ml £36.40, La Roche-Posay – Nutritic Intense Rich moisturizer £16.50
4. Sunscreen isn’t only for Summer (what?!)
Yes, summer is over and we no longer see Sunscreen lotion plastered across the front shelves of every beauty store. But this does not mean it’s no longer important. Sun rays can still do major damage in winter, do not let the temperature drop mislead you, it’s still just as bad. Be sure to apply a cream based SPF of 30 (or more) for moisture and hydration. Sunscreen we recommend: Sesderma Repaskin Sunscreen Gel Cream Facial – £20 , La Roche-Posay Anthelios XL Ultra Light Fluid SPF 50+ – £16.50
