Top 3 nutritional tips for summer by our lovely nutritionist Tautvile Sliazaite
Nutritional Tips – Vitamin D
One of my first nutritional tips is to make sure you spend at least 15 minutes outside on a sunny day – we all know how important Vitamin D is for our immune health, digestive and nervous systems. Not getting enough of that, might lead us to lots of health concerns. Almost every client I see in London is Vitamin D deficient, because it is not well absorbed through diet, but easily obtained from sunshine. The good thing is that it is stored in our body, that’s why getting enough of it during the summer months should keep us safe throughout the winter.
It is the best time to eat Berries. They are so high in antioxidants and are on the top list of ORAC (oxygen radicalabsorption capacity) list. Chose berries like – blueberries, raspberries, blackberries, strawberries and cherries. Buy organic when possible. The good news is, that they are high in water content, high in fibre, but very low in calories and sugar content. Great snack for warm summer days – you can freeze them and make refreshing smoothies or even cocktail with them.
Make sure that you drink enough water, because during summer months, it is really easy to get dehydrated. Best option – spring water. To make it more interesting try adding – lemon, orange, fresh berries, fresh mint or cucumber. Remember we should drink around 8 glasses of water per day, however if you are a coffee lover – add an additional glass of water or two.
